Gift Cards, Crypto and Irreversibility
The payment method is chosen before you are, for one property: it cannot be undone.

Why the method is always the same
Every long approach ends at a payment, and the payment method is chosen before you are. It is chosen for one property: it cannot be undone.
Gift card codes, cryptocurrency, wire transfers to a stranger's account, money sent through a remittance service to a name you were given. These have nothing in common except that once the money moves, it is gone, and no institution anywhere has both the power and the obligation to bring it back.
The one thing worth memorising
No legitimate organisation on earth is paid in gift cards. Not a tax authority, not a court, not a utility, not a police force, not a bank, not a customs office, not a hospital, not a lawyer. There is no exception and there has never been one, so the request is not a warning sign — it is the whole answer, and it can be acted on before you understand anything else about the situation.
The same is nearly true of being asked to buy cryptocurrency and send it on. Nobody who is owed money by you needs it in that form.
What can and cannot be undone
Card payments carry a dispute mechanism. It is the only consumer route with real leverage, and it is why fraud steers away from cards.
Bank transfers you authorised yourself have no equivalent. Your bank can ask the receiving bank to send it back; the receiving bank asks its customer; the customer is a mule account that emptied within minutes. The request is a courtesy, not a right.
Cryptocurrency cannot be reversed at all. Not by an exchange, not by a court, not by the network. That is a design property and not a policy anybody can appeal.
Speed is the other half
These methods are also chosen for how fast they settle, because the window in which a bank can freeze anything is measured in hours. The urgency in the message is not impatience. It is the clock the operator is running against — and it is the same clock you are running against, which is why the single most useful thing you can do after sending money is to tell your bank immediately, even if you feel foolish, even at 2am.
What to carry out of this
- The payment method is chosen for being irreversible, before you are chosen
- Nothing legitimate is ever paid in gift cards, and that alone settles it
- The urgency is a clock, and after sending you are racing the same one
